We Excel in the Markets We Serve

Urban Engineers of New York serves the aviation, rail & transit, highway & bridge, and buildings & development markets. While many of our engineers, managers and inspectors have experience across multiple markets, we understand that each client requires engineering and management services that are tailored to their unique facilities, specialized operations, maintenance requirements, and important public interface components. Having successfully delivered some of the country’s largest, most complex projects, we understand how to assemble a team that possesses the experience and leadership necessary to overcome challenges and deliver a project that makes all stakeholders proud.

Markets That We Serve

  • Aviation

UrbanNY has served the aviation market for decades, beginning with an early assignment for the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA) and more recently for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ). Our construction management and engineering services support both landside and airside initiatives, runways, terminal construction and renovations, new consolidated rental car facilities, and transit networks. In our role we assist our aviation clients with coordination between the many stakeholders including the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), airlines, and terminal tenants.

UrbanNY has merged its understanding of aviation facilities with its proven approach to construction management services to help deliver the largest aviation programs in the country. Over the last decade, UrbanNY played a critical role in the reconstruction of the PANYNJ’s three major airports in New York metropolitan region. At LaGuardia Airport, UrbanNY provided construction management services for the $8 billion redevelopment program that led Forbes Travel Guide to name LaGuardia Airport 2024 Best U.S. Airport. At Newark Liberty International Airport, UrbanNY was instrumental in helping to deliver the $2.7 billion reconstruction of Terminal A. Currently, UrbanNY is leading the construction management efforts for the $19 billion redevelopment of JFK International Airport. We are extremely proud of UrbanNY’s role in the region’s airport renaissance.

  • Rail and Transit

Bus, light rail, subway, commuter rail, and intercity passenger rail systems provide access to opportunities, generate economic growth, and help reduce traffic congestion. Innovative and cost-effective engineering solutions are required to maintain legacy transit systems and develop new systems throughout the United States. Starting with our work on The Buffalo Light Rail Program for the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA) more than 50 years ago and continuing through our recent work on the New York City’s mega-projects, including Second Avenue Subway and East Side Access projects, UrbanNY is viewed as a leading provider of services to the rail and transit market.

UrbanNY provides program management, construction services, and engineering services to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), Port Authority Trans-Hudson Corporation (PATH), New Jersey Transit, NFTA, Amtrak, and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). As a trusted partner to these transit agencies, we’ve completed time-sensitive emergency projects and critical capital programs, including state of good repair and system expansions, station construction and renovation, ADA compliance, railyard maintenance and expansion, and vehicle procurements.

  • Surface Transportation/Highway and Bridge

The National Highway System, the Interstate Highway System and an expansive local road network, is a critical and valued asset in the United States. The collection of roadways connects cities, promotes interstate commerce, and reinforces national security. Maintaining and strengthening this aging asset requires the support of local, state and federal agencies, communities, contractors, and engineering firms.

Our construction management leaders bring hands-on industry experience, providing expert quality assurance and practical solutions that mitigate risks and resolve complex issues. Supported by skilled inspectors and project control specialists, we develop and monitor detailed schedules and cost estimates with precision. Our engineering team—covering civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical disciplines—collaborates closely with construction managers to proactively address challenges and enhance project success.

UrbanNY’s earliest assignments were in the surface transportation market providing construction management and engineering services to the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) and the New York State Thruway Authority (NYSTA). Today, more than 50 years later, UrbanNY continues to serve those same clients throughout New York.

  • UrbanNY Buildings and Development Market

    Buildings and Development

UrbanNY is proud of our work as a buildings and development firm. We bring the depth of our construction management and engineering services experience on a wide range of building types. We understand a building’s importance across the markets and clients we serve, and we offer clients our longstanding reputation and extensive portfolio of building projects in the New York metropolitan region. Building owners and developers rely on UrbanNY for a wide range of services, including: construction management; civil, structural and mechanical/electrical/plumbing engineering; vertical transportation; code compliance and special inspections.

UrbanNY’s building related services have been strengthened and expanded through our recent work in support of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s aviation redevelopment programs, serving as the engineering and construction quality control arm of the integrity monitoring services for the construction of One World Trade Center, and proving special inspection services to building owners throughout New York City, most notably for the reconstruction of the Empire State Building’s 200-foot-tall mooring mast.
