Robert Olson and Yervant Terzian formed the firm that would become Urban Engineers of New York. The original assignments were in Rochester, NY, and Buffalo, NY, and included NFTA contracts.
UrbanNY Led Buffalo Light Rail Transit for NFTA
UrbanNY led the planning, design, and engineering efforts for the NFTA new light rail transit system (LRT).
UrbanNY Delivered New Transit System to Buffalo
With the opening of the NFTA LRT, UrbanNY successfully delivered the complex transit system and tunnel serving Buffalo, NY.
UrbanNY Expanded Its Construction Services
UrbanNY expanded its construction management and engineering services for the Western New York regions of NYSDOT and NYSTA.
UrbanNY Opened Its New York City Office
UrbanNY opened its New York City office. The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) appointed UrbanNY as the Program Management Oversight Consultant (PMOC) for the entire MTA Capital Program, valued at $30 billion, including NYCT, LIRR, the NYCDOT Ferry Program, and the mega-projects East Side Access and Second Avenue Subway.
UrbanNY Expands Design & Construction Management Services
UrbanNY continues to grow, providing design and construction management services to New York City agencies, including the NYCEDC, NYCDDC, BPCA, and the NYC Parks.
UrbanNY Contributed to the World Trade Center Reconstruction
It was a proud moment in our firm’s history: serving as the engineering and construction quality control arm of a joint venture, UrbanNY provided integrity monitoring services for the construction of the new World Trade Center site and One World Trade Center.
UrbanNY Earned a Special Inspection Agency Certification
UrbanNY distinguished itself to become one of the first firms to obtain NYC Buildings' Special Inspection Agency certification, to support developers and building owners throughout New York City. A signature project was the renovation of the Empire State Building’s iconic Art Deco spire.
UrbanNY Supported Superstorm Sandy Recovery
Serving the FTA, UrbanNY assessed the damage caused by Superstorm Sandy to the regional transit network. UrbanNY's efforts helped determine the magnitude of funding required through the U.S. Congress. Later, UrbanNY managed the PATH Superstorm Sandy recovery projects.
UrbanNY Provided Construction Management for the LaGuardia Airport Redevelopment
UrbanNY provided construction management services to the PANYNJ for the $8 billion renovation of LaGuardia Airport. In 2024, Forbes Travel Guide named the new LaGuardia Airport "The Best Airport in the United States."
UrbanNY Delivered Second Avenue Subway-Phase 1
Phase 1 of the Second Avenue Subway (SAS), a $4.5 billion project, opened for service on New Year's Day. The project received both the ASCE Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award and the ACEC Diamond Award.
UrbanNY Delivered East Side Access
UrbanNY marked 20 years of program management as the East Side Access (ESA) project, valued at $13 billion, reached completion. ESA stands as one of the largest transit initiatives in the nation.
UrbanNY Supported Newark Terminal A Completion
PANYNJ engaged UrbanNY to assist with the accelerated completion of the Newark Terminal A Redevelopment Program, valued at $2.7 billion. This program was named "World's Best New Airport Terminal" by SKYTRAX.
UrbanNY Awarded PM/CM/SI for JFK Redevelopment
UrbanNY was selected to provide PM/CM/SI for the $19 billion redevelopment of the Port Authority's JFK International Airport, one of the busiest airports in the United States.
